Today we were packing the crate with the motorbikes.
We started the day with spreading out everything on the floor of Roberto´s livingroom just to get an overview. My biggest concern has been that we have to much gear and that it will not fit in the panniers. And that would mean that we could get everything on the bikes.
Another reason we spread everything out on the floor was to list everything we put in the crate, item by item. Actually there is two lists; one for us to keep track of everything and one for the shipping company and the insurance. We have to have an insurance!
When everything was packed in the compressed panniers except for the personal protection equipment, I was very relieved when it showed that there was actually room left!
Okay, now to the crate. Two of the panniers was stacked on top of each other, between the bikes. Two of the panniers were placed between the motor and the fork, one under each motorbike. The front wheels stands along one side of the crate with packing material in between, secured with small ropes.
All the personal protection equipment, except for the helmets, were packed into our big (109 liters) Ortlieb dry bags. The helmets are in the top cases and they are up side down on top of the bikes. The boots are packed in between the saddle and the back wheel.
Now we can conclude that it takes two persons two days to put two motorbikes in one crate.
But working for two days crating the motorbikes doesn’t mean that we are tired of motorbikes! When we got home from the workshop we saw the first two parts of Long Way Round, with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. They had a big crew arranging everything for them, and they even got free motorbikes. Now we can show how two (almost) ordinary guys doing the same thing, ourselves!

Hej Jonas!
Förstår att ni närmar er avresa!! När åker ni?
Kram
a.
Vi flyger hemifrån den 30e November. Pirrigt!
Ja vi kommer fortfarande ihåg känslan den dagen vi faktiskt gav oss iväg. Obeskrivligt, det stod säkert hundra människor i hamnen och vinkade av oss.
Hey Jonas! thanks for your post on our blog (haciendolo2010.wordpress.com). Are you riding only in Chile or are you guys going to be all over the place? Maybe we’ll catch up with you somewhere down the line!
cheers

Hi!
We start in Chile but the plan is to get to Argentina as well, and maybe some other countries. It all depends on how fast we want to travel. But we are riding motorbikes, so it could be fast
We would defiantly (spelling?) meet up with you guys. Riding together is always more fun.
Take care!
